Description:

Job Description: To support and improve Houston Chinese Church’s primary activities by managing and growing our ability to communicate via social media, website, and providing analytics to show where we are and help set goals for how to move forward in this area. This position also includes maintenance of IT-related hardware and software, and provide tech-training for church staff.

Purpose: To work with various departments and staff for the purpose of sharing the Gospel message and ministering to our community and the world via digital platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Update and redesign church website
  • Oversee the maintenance and administration of the ChMS (Breeze) database
  • Ensure that social media content is updated and fresh
  • Evaluate the administrative and ministry needs and how to migrate into digital platforms
  • Research the need for a dedicated server to church administration and upgrade it as needed
  • Help formulate HCC’s digital strategy, including but not limited to website, social media accounts, communication platforms
  • Oversee the coordination of Audio & Visual (A/V) training and support for volunteer coworkers
  • Oversee tech training (Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, Breeze, and etc) for church staff and volunteer coworkers
  • Maintenance of IT-related hardware and software
  • Act as primary point of contact for all technology related vendors, including but not limited to IT Managed Services Provider (MSP) services, web hosting services, technology related contract work

Organizational Relationships

  1. Accountability: The IT Coordinator is directly accountable to the Church Administrator (or Executive Pastor). This accountability is maintained through personal contact and other means. The IT Coordinator will be subjected to a formal review on an annual basis after his/her first year of employment.
  2. Staff Relationships: The IT Coordinator will work closely with members of the pastoral staff. He/She shall work to maintain healthy, professional relationships with church staff through mutual support.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge in computer software & hardware maintenance
  • Knowledge in IT helpdesk/desktop support
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical end users at all levels of the organization
  • Self-starting & coachable attitude with a willingness to grow, learn and adapt to changing technologies
  • Attention to detail coupled with excellent organization skills
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize on a daily basis
  • Good problem-solving skills required
  • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently
  • The ability to bend, squat, crawl or climb and lift technology hardware as needed

Desired Skills

  • Understanding and proficiency of IT Network technologies and processes
  • Excellent working knowledge of up-to-date desktop applications
  • Knowledge/Experience with Breeze Church Management software
  • Knowledge of Windows scripting, batch files and automation
  • Knowledge in Audio Sound board, Visual Projection, basic video camera recording
  • Creativity and advanced knowledge of media production, media, and Microsoft Office is desired
  • Excellent jack of all trade IT skills and suitable for Small Business Environment

Facility Supervisor

Description:

Purpose: The Facility Supervisor’s primary function is to support and improve Houston Chinese Church’s primary activities by providing an optimal environment and safety of HCC’s church complex, by integrating members, processes, buildings, and technology.

Responsibilities

  • General Facility Matters
    • Maintenance and repair (could be done by contracting outside service):
      • A/C units
      • Plumbing
      • Electrical
      • Cleanliness
      • Pest Control
      • Ground Keeping
      • Locks and keys, Entrance Access system
      • Fire and Security
      • Minor repairs
  • Technical Support
    • Maintenance and management of mobile A/V items
  • Others
    • Inventory and purchasing of facility supplies
    • Maintenance and usage of the baptismal pool
    • React to urgent facility emergency
    • Assist in remodeling project(s)

Qualifications

  • The Facility Supervisor must be a born-again Christian walking in a faithful, obedient relationship with Jesus Christ. He/she must have an excitement about serving the church body and possess a servant’s heart.
  • The Facility Supervisor must be detail-oriented, with an ability to communicate in the English and Chinese language, with one of the two being fluent (read and write) is essential.
  • The Facility Supervisor must have demonstrated working knowledge of current computer applications related to, or similar to Microsoft Office.
  • The Facility Supervisor must have a demonstrated working knowledge of grounds and building management and maintenance, building automation and building systems management, and moving or installation of new equipment.
  • The Facility Supervisor must demonstrate a commitment to and agree with the statement of faith held by Houston Chinese Church.
  • The Facility Supervisor must have a working knowledge of fire safety, health-related indoor environmental quality, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • The Facility Supervisor shall be a self-motivated, highly organized individual, able to work on multiple tasks with little supervision, and proactive in resolving needs. He or she should also be teachable, act with integrity, and able to work with people of differing opinions.     
  • The Facility Supervisor should also have a strong aptitude for computers and technology.

Nursery Caregiver

Description:

Purpose: Houston Chinese Church (HCC) is looking for nursery caregivers to lovingly care for babies and toddlers. Beginning in 1975, HCC now has English, Mandarin, and Cantonese-speaking congregations, with Sunday attendance around 1000, and total children’s attendance of approximately 150 kids (~40 of which are nursery-age). At HCC, we aim to provide quality care and supervision of children in a secure, nurturing environment where each child will see, hear, and feel the love of Jesus Christ and parents can feel confident their child will receive great care and teaching.

Responsibilities & Duties:  At all times, two adults will be present in the nursery classrooms to provide nurture and care. The Nursery Caregivers will set-up the childcare space prior to the children’s arrival, welcome children and parents, pay attention to any specific concerns or needs the parent shares, and provide structure for playtime, snacks, & rest (as needed). This may include learning the names of the children and parents, reading books, singing songs, playing games, and assisting children with hand-washing & eating snacks, changing diapers, holding, rocking, and supporting the safety of the classroom through behavior management. It is the Nursery Caregiver’s responsibility to be sure that all children are cared for in an appropriate manner.

Time Required:  Nursery Caregivers will be scheduled for weekly events (Friday 7:00pm-9:00pm and/or Sunday 9:15am-12:15pm) and on an as-needed basis. All Nursery Caregivers are part-time. Caregivers are expected to be present approximately 30 minutes before the scheduled event and should stay until all the children in their care have been picked up by their parents and the classroom is cleaned up.

Skills needed/to be developed:  A love of children, behavior management skills, and the gifts of hospitality, patience, kindness, and joy. Caregivers should also desire to provide care to the children and should consider the children in their care their number one priority while working. Some experience with parenting, childcare, and/or teaching infants/toddlers is necessary. Fluent in English is required and fluent in Chinese is a plus!

Training Required:  According to Policies, HCC will conduct a criminal background check on all staff and volunteers working with children. Staff must also complete an orientation/training session once a year and additional continuing education in-services, as needed and/or as requested by the Children’s Ministry Team.

Nursery Coordinator

Job Description: Houston Chinese Church (HCC) is looking for a nursery coordinator to lead and oversee the nursery ministry for children ranging from birth to age 3. Beginning in 1975, HCC now has English, Mandarin, and Cantonese-speaking congregations, with Sunday attendance around 1000, and total children’s attendance of approximately 150 kids (~40 of which are nursery-age). At HCC, we aim to provide quality care and supervision of children in a secure, nurturing environment where each child will see, hear, and feel the love of Jesus Christ and parents can feel confident their child will receive great care and teaching. Therefore, HCC wants a nursery coordinator who believes that discipleship begins with even the youngest of children.

General Responsibilities:

  • Work with Children’s Minister to determine and prepare curriculum for children’s classes
  • Order teaching supplies and additional classroom materials, furniture, and toys as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment in nursery rooms and keep materials organized and in place.
  • Update database of nursery children’s registration information, classroom lists and sign-in sheets.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise paid-caregivers and volunteers in their different roles.
  •  Schedule regular First Aid training courses for caregivers.
  • Oversee scheduling and email communication with paid-caregivers and volunteers.
  • Handle other departments’ requests to provide childcare for special events as needed.
  • Work with Children’s Minister to submit annual budget for nursery department.
  • Welcome and acquaint new Nursery families and visitors.
  • Be familiar with and care for nursery children and their families.
  • Provide resources for parents (schedule guest speaker lectures, recommend books or videos).
  • Recruit church members to lead and serve on the nursery prayer team.
  • Other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a baptized believer of Jesus, and demonstrate integrity, grace, and commitment to HCC.
  • Agrees completely with the articles of faith, church constitution, mission and core values of HCC.
  • 2+ years previous experience in the teaching field or working with children 
  • Knowledge of children’s spiritual development and innovative approaches to children’s ministry.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess sensitivity to Chinese and Western cultures and values.
  • Fluent in English language required; knowledge of Chinese language a plus.
  • Experience as parent of young children a plus.
  • Undergraduate degree required; specialization in child development or education a plus.
