Sermon Description

We come to the end of this narrative in Exodus. It started with God’s people breaking the covenant by making the golden calf and ends with God renewing this covenant as a response to a plea from Moses. Moses’ shining face is sign of God renewing the covenant. While this is a great and awesome thing, we must see that his shining face is only a shadow of a greater covenant to come.

Sermon Description

The French reformer John Calvin once wrote that the prime motive of his existence is zeal to illustrate the glory of God. He was convinced that Catholic dogma had obscured and diminished God’s glory. So in protest, he committed his life to speaking and serving in such a way that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. That is the prime motive found in this morning’s passage.

Sermon Description

The Lord’s Prayer doesn't begin like typical prayer of ours. We usually start with a list of personal requests, but Jesus teaches us to begin with three petitions that have nothing to do with us and everything to do with our Father in heaven. The first is for God to hallow his own Name.
