You Shall Know I AM: The Golden Calf

Bible VersesExodus 32:1-35

Preacher

Preached on

May 12, 2019

Sermon Description

The events of chapter 32 are surprising. The people of God had recently witnessed his hand and heard his voice. Moses had gone to receive instructions for a tabernacle in which God would dwell among them. Things look promising, and yet suddenly they're bowing to a golden calf. First Corinthians 10 says this episode took place to serve as an example of what not to desire and what not to do. So what sessions can we learn?

Preacher

Preached on

April 14, 2019

Sermon Description

On Palm Sunday it's only fitting to consider why Jesus came - not just to Jerusalem that day - but to our world in the first place. Simply put, he came as a Substitute - to take the place of sinners under God's judgment. The events surrounding his trial illustrate this purpose, which can be appreciated from three different perspectives in the narrative.

You Shall Know I AM: The Second Table of the Law

Bible VersesExodus 20:12-17

Preacher

Preached on

February 24, 2019

Sermon Description

These laws in the Second Table are written on every human heart (Rom 2:15) and were always meant to be kept from the heart. We must no longer treat the Ten Commandments as a checklist concerned with outward behavior while ignoring its demand for inward obedience.

Bible VersesExodus 20:1-11

Preacher

Preached on

February 17, 2019

Sermon Description

The Ten Commandments is the most widely known section of the Mosaic Law and arguably the most widely misapplied. It is important to see that the Law is not a burden or a standard for us to achieve. The Law is a blessing for those who are redeemed.

The crossing of the Red Sea is a paradigm of biblical salvation. That means a greater grasp of how the Lord finally delivers Israel from Egypt grants us a greater understanding and appreciation for the ways in which the Lord continues to save his people by a strong hand.

Bible VersesExodus 11:1-13:16

Preacher

Preached on

October 14, 2018

Sermon Description

As Christians, we read the Old Testament in light of New Testament realities. So the Passover meal in Exodus has been reinterpreted as the First Supper. It’s a ritual meal that finds its fulfillment in the Last Supper shared by Christ and his apostles and its recapitulation in the Lord’s Supper shared by Christ and his Church today.

You Shall Know I AM: Plagues and the Hard Heart

Bible VersesExodus 8-10

Preacher

Preached on

October 7, 2018

Sermon Description

As children, we might read the Ten Plagues as fanciful stories filled with magicians and magical staffs. But, as we grow older, the same stories have a way of disturbing our sensibilities and our view of God and how he ought to operate. That's why we'll all benefit from a careful reading of the Plagues from three different perspectives.

Preacher

Preached on

September 9, 2018

Sermon Description

Moses has received an undeniable call from the LORD, but he is still trying to wiggle his way out of it. You Shall Know I AM: Bondage and the Birth

Bible VersesExodus 1:1-2:10

Preacher

Preached on

August 19, 2018

Sermon Description

The book of Exodus has been aptly described as the Old Testament gospel. That is, it contains the good news of salvation through Moses that ultimately foreshadows the final salvation of God’s people through a Second Moses. In this sense, the first two chapters help illustrate a human condition that we share with the ancient Israelites – our deep bonds of slavery and our great need for deliverance.
