The prophecy of Micah begins in a cosmic courtroom setting. The entire earth, and everyone in it, is on trial. God makes a powerful appearance as Judge and Witness, and surprisingly, the defendants include his own people. When the verdict comes down, a lament goes up.

Sermon Description

In a culture of luxury and affluence, the poor and marginalized fall easily as victims to the rich and powerful. But while they appear to prosper on the earth, the fate of the unrighteous rich will always end in misery – in weeping and howling on the Day of the Lord. In our text, James reinforces these realities through a prophetic woe against the wicked, which serves as a warning for the righteous in Christ.

Sermon Description

The events of chapter 32 are surprising. The people of God had recently witnessed his hand and heard his voice. Moses had gone to receive instructions for a tabernacle in which God would dwell among them. Things look promising, and yet suddenly they're bowing to a golden calf. First Corinthians 10 says this episode took place to serve as an example of what not to desire and what not to do. So what sessions can we learn?

Sermon Description

John Calvin once described the unregenerate human heart as a perpetual idol factory. The book of Judges appears to support that idea. Today's passage concludes the book's prologue by offering a theological rationale for how Israel found herself on an irrational, downward spiral into idolatry.
