Sermon Description

As we learn more about a topic, our knowledge of the topic expands. We see this principle at work in topics such as math, english, relationships, cooking, painting, and home ownership. This also applies to our understanding of Jesus. Throughout our series, we have been learning about different aspects of Jesus. The purpose is to increase our worship of God. What does God want us to see about Jesus in this text?

Sermon Description

With the presidential election days away, many Christians feel frustrated that their choices come down to two imperfect candidates associated with either character traits or policies they find unworthy of the office. They wish, in an ideal world, for a candidate who possesses all the qualities they desire. And that is why Revelation 5 is a most timely passage for us – because here we are given a vision of a leader, who comes from the ideal world, who possesses everything we are looking for. Far from being a jumble of contradictions, Jesus is the embodiment of an array of diverse excellencies.

Sermon Description

The visit of the Magi is a familiar Christmas story. Which is why it’s surprising to discover that, at heart, it has to do with God's passion and plan for his Son to receive exceedingly glad worship from all the peoples of the earth. It's a plan still unfolding today. A plan that every believer is called to join.

Sermon Description

We don’t need a king to lead us into sin. We do fine on our own. Israel proves this in the final chapters of Judges. Here we read some of the most disturbing passages in all of Scripture. The depths of human depravity are explored, and we’re rightly disgusted. But then we’re humbled when we realize we’re staring into a mirror.

Sermon Description

The book of Judges is not a sanitized book as our passage graphically demonstrates (!). It shocks and surprises. Most notably in the way God uses the most unexpected people to accomplish his purposes in the most unexpected ways.

Sermon Description

Holding keys is like holding authority to open gates and shut them. When Christ gave the keys of the kingdom to the apostles, who passed them on to the church, He was giving authority to open and shut the gates of the kingdom. In other words, He was giving authority to receive or reject an individual’s confession of Christ as either genuine (from the Father) or spurious (from the flesh).

Sermon Description

How long will you go limping between two different opinions? That was a question posed to a nation by a 9th-century B.C. prophet, but it could just as easily be asked of us today. Our society breathes the air of pluralism – the idea that all religions are essentially the same. People will ask why we can't hold both opinions (or more). Why do we have to choose?

Like sheep without a shepherd; servants without a lord; subjects without a king. That’s how Scripture describes the human dilemma. Everyone is in need of the rescue and rule that a good king can bring.
