Sermon Description

A church that fails to fight sin in its midst is failing its job to love and protect. Even if a member appears to make peace with his sin, we must continue the fight through  church discipline. That means fighting sin in the lives of our members even if it means fighting without their help.

Sermon Description

To the world, the idea of church discipline sounds judgmental, hypercritical, and unloving. But to the Bible, church discipline is how fellow church members love you and oversee your discipleship to Christ.

Sermon Description

What difference does church membership make to my everyday discipleship to Christ? Outside of an occasional vote, we would be hard pressed for an answer. Our hope is to recover a vision of life together, as the church, where membership is a meaningful aspect of our lives.

Sermon Description

Holding keys is like holding authority to open gates and shut them. When Christ gave the keys of the kingdom to the apostles, who passed them on to the church, He was giving authority to open and shut the gates of the kingdom. In other words, He was giving authority to receive or reject an individual’s confession of Christ as either genuine (from the Father) or spurious (from the flesh).

Sermon Description

Under the Old Covenant, the people of God were governed by prophets (Moses), priests (Samuel), and kings (David). These men were assigned by God a unique authority to function as the leader, the head of Israel. But now under the New Covenant, the new people of God, who have Christ as their Head, require a leadership structure compatible with our new nature (a royal priesthood). We believe congregationalism is the structure that best reflects these gospel realities.
