Sermon Description

Who is like the LORD? That’s the meaning of Micah’s name and the very question he poses to conclude his book. This morning we’re confronted by a God like none other – who punishes and pardons, who expresses displeasure and delight, who both judges and restores. This balance in God’s dealing with sinners like us means that we cannot expect to walk and serve in the light of his salvation until we sit and wait in the darkness of his discipline.

Sermon Description

Nebuchadnezzar's experience in chapter 4 teaches that repentance to God will lead to restoration no matter how wicked your past, but Belshazzar's experience in chapter 5 teaches the opposite – that defiance of God will lead to downfall no matter how secure your present.

Sermon Description

The Sermon on the Mount is a widely loved passage but widely misunderstood. Some see it as a description of how to enter the kingdom of heaven or establish it on earth. But it’s actually a description of how Christians should live once we've been brought into the kingdom, by grace, through repentance and faith.

Sermon Description

Getting baptized is no mere ritual for the Christian. Christ himself certainly didn’t treat it that way. Granted, his baptism was not the exact same as ours, but it matters and informs us nonetheless.

Sermon Description

We don’t need a king to lead us into sin. We do fine on our own. Israel proves this in the final chapters of Judges. Here we read some of the most disturbing passages in all of Scripture. The depths of human depravity are explored, and we’re rightly disgusted. But then we’re humbled when we realize we’re staring into a mirror.

Although Jesus was mocked, beaten, scourged, and led to be crucified, He still demonstrated selfless love to those that rejected him by offering to pay the penalty of their sin on the cross so that they can have access to God.

Sermon Description

A church that fails to fight sin in its midst is failing its job to love and protect. Even if a member appears to make peace with his sin, we must continue the fight through  church discipline. That means fighting sin in the lives of our members even if it means fighting without their help.

Sermon Description

To the world, the idea of church discipline sounds judgmental, hypercritical, and unloving. But to the Bible, church discipline is how fellow church members love you and oversee your discipleship to Christ.
