Sermon Description

Getting wisdom is not the pursuit of novel ideas. It is a process of continual recollection and recommitment to the familiar truths passed down to you. The acquisition of wisdom is not about blazing new paths. It’s about keeping to the old roads, well-trodden by the wise.

Sermon Description

We know we need wisdom, but we’re not sure how to get it. It seemed like Solomon trusted God, prayed for it, and suddenly became wise. But Proverbs teaches that wisdom is a learned skill for navigating the uncertainties of life – not a spiritually downloaded set of instructions for what to do in every situation.

Like other proverbs, this proverb calls us to seek wisdom. Proverbs 2 also calls us to seek out wisdom like silver. As a hidden treasure. There’s value in wisdom. Sermon Description

Life bombards you with choices. Which project in your queue should you work on? You have two job offers before you, which should you choose? Your child refuses to eat the food before her, what should you do? You’ve received admission letters to three different universities, where should you go? A person asked you out on a date, what should you say? We face choices each day where we need wisdom. We desire to be wise people, who choose wisely. How do we become wise according to the Bible?

Sermon Description

What is the human conscience? Is it the shoulder angel whispering into your ear? A voice running a commentary in your head? A moral compass teaching us right from wrong? Those are all helpful metaphors. Here’s the way the Bible describes it: The conscience is God’s one remaining witness in the soul of fallen humanity.

Sermon Description

It's easy to work for a boss who's reasonable, friendly, and gives you the kind of respect you think you deserve. But, when you're in a job situation working for a boss who isn't like that, why should you still care to do good work and show him or her respect? What does it look like to thrive as a Christian in your workplace regardless of whether your boss is - at least in your eyes - good or bad?

Sermon Description

Children imitate their parents. It’s natural and normal. Since Christians, through Jesus, have been adopted into God’s family, it is natural for us to now imitate our Heavenly Father. We do so by walking in love by putting others first in our words and deed, as light by taking God’s design seriously and exposing the darkness in us and the world around us, and as wise by making the most of the time. Filled with the Spirit, as we walk in love, as light, and as wise, we reveal to a watching world just who our Father really is.
